Microsoft Plans Multi-Platform Support for Switch 2

During a January 2025 interview with Gamertag Radio, Xbox chief Phil Spencer revealed Microsoft's plans to bring its games to Nintendo's next-generation handheld console. The executive shared insights about his ongoing conversations with Nintendo leadership.
"I've been exchanging emails with Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa," Spencer disclosed. "I congratulated him on their upcoming hardware - as someone who appreciates larger screens, I'm particularly excited about the improvements."
Spencer praised Nintendo's industry influence, stating: "Their continued innovation deserves recognition. While we've only seen a teaser so far, I'm eager to support their platform with our game portfolio. Nintendo remains a vital part of our industry."

While specific titles weren't named, Microsoft's existing 10-year agreement with Nintendo - announced February 2023 - already guarantees Call of Duty releases with full feature parity. Following successful ports like Grounded to current Switch hardware, Xbox appears positioned to expand its Nintendo presence with the more capable Switch 2.
Xbox Continues Hardware Innovation

Spencer emphasized that Xbox remains committed to hardware development despite its cross-platform strategy. "The most successful games reach players everywhere," he noted. "We're building infrastructure to empower developers targeting multiple platforms."
The executive outlined Xbox's vision: "We're creating hardware that players will choose - whether for TV, handheld, or other gaming contexts. Our goal is to build preferred platforms for both developers and gamers."
Expanding Xbox's Ecosystem Reach

Xbox's November 2024 "This is an Xbox" campaign signaled its expanded vision for gaming accessibility. Marketing lead Craig McNary explained: "This initiative celebrates Xbox experiences across devices - with bold, playful visuals reflecting our evolution."
The unconventional campaign partnered with brands like Samsung and Porsche to demonstrate Xbox's expanding ecosystem. Unlike competitors focusing on exclusives, Microsoft continues prioritizing accessibility - bringing its games to rival platforms while developing new hardware experiences.
