inZOI's Director Unveils Plans for Karma System and Ghostly Encounters
inZOI game director, Hyungjun Kim, recently revealed intriguing details about an upcoming Karma system that introduces a paranormal element to the game's realistic setting. This system will determine the fate of deceased Zois, transforming them into ghosts based on their accumulated Karma points.
According to Kim's February 7, 2025 Discord post, Zois who die with sufficient Karma points transition to the afterlife. However, those with insufficient points remain as ghosts, bound to the mortal realm until they accrue enough Karma to move on. The specific actions required to increase Karma points remain undisclosed for now.
Kim assures players that ghostly interactions will be carefully balanced to avoid overshadowing the core gameplay, stating that, in the Early Access version, interactions with ghost Zois will be limited to specific times and conditions.
While the game prioritizes realism, Kim expressed interest in exploring more fantastical elements in the future, suggesting that the Karma system and ghostly encounters represent a deliberate departure from the ultra-realistic core gameplay.
A Glimpse into Karma Interactions
A sponsored video by MadMorph in August 2024 offered a sneak peek at the Karma Interaction system. This mechanic allows Zois to perform actions that impact their Karma score, both positively and negatively. The video showcased a humorous example of a negative interaction (secretly farting on another Zoi's face), while positive actions such as "Throwing Away Trash" or "Liking a Friend's Post" were mentioned but not demonstrated.
While the Early Access version (releasing on Steam March 28, 2025) will focus on the living Zois, the full impact of the Karma Interaction system will be revealed in future updates.
