Street Fighter 6 has surpassed 5 million units sold worldwide, Capcom confirmed. The fighting game's sales have grown from 4 million in September 2024, with the recent Nintendo Switch 2 release contributing significantly to this milestone.
Capcom implemented a strategy to "maximize player engagement" by launching Street Fighter 6 simultaneously with Nintendo's newest console. The Switch 2 version introduces exclusive game modes and innovative motion controls utilizing the Joy-Con 2's advanced gyro features. Notably, the platform supports full cross-platform play, expanding the matchmaking pool.
"Our strategic initiatives have successfully broadened Street Fighter 6's global appeal, leading to this 5 million sales achievement," Capcom stated.
Street Fighter 6 reached 3 million sales in January 2024, seven months post-launch. While Capcom notes the title is performing as projected, pre-launch expectations targeted surpassing Street Fighter 5's lifetime sales with an ambitious 10 million unit goal.Capcom explained, "While we don't disclose development budgets, our objective remains outperforming Street Fighter 5, targeting 10+ million lifetime sales." The current figures indicate Street Fighter 6 still has considerable ground to cover before surpassing its predecessor's 7.8 million total.
For historical context, Street Fighter 2 Turbo (SNES, 1993) sold 4.1 million units, while the original Street Fighter 2 achieved 6.3 million. This positions Street Fighter 6 as the third highest-selling entry in the franchise to date.
The game's sales parallel competitor Mortal Kombat 1, which also reached 5 million units since its September 2023 launch. While Mortal Kombat traditionally leads fighting game sales, its latest installment underperformed expectations, prompting developer NetherRealm to shift focus to new projects.
Capcom continues supporting Street Fighter 6 with upcoming DLC characters: Sagat (Summer 2025), C. Viper (Fall 2025), Alex (Spring 2026), and Ingrid (Late Spring 2026). The roster expansion was revealed in a special trailer featuring professional wrestler Kenny Omega portraying each newcomer.
IGN's 9/10 review praised Street Fighter 6 as "the most complete Street Fighter launch package, featuring an exceptional 18-fighter roster, innovative mechanics that refresh the fighting genre, and meticulous attention to detail that elevates the entire experience."
