The Duskbloods invites players to step into the role of a Bloodsworn, but rest assured, it’s not Bloodborne 2. Dive in to discover FromSoftware’s vision for The Duskbloods and its unique features.
FromSoftware Will Continue To Create Single-Player Focused Games
The Duskbloods Director on Nintendo’s Creator’s Voice Blog

FromSoftware, the minds behind Elden Ring, have reassured fans that they remain committed to crafting their signature single-player experiences, even as they venture into multiplayer territories. In a surprising move, they unveiled The Duskbloods, an exclusive title for the Nintendo Switch 2, during the April 2 Nintendo Direct. This PvPvE game blends FromSoftware's iconic Soulslike themes and aesthetics, despite the studio also working on another multiplayer title, Elden Ring Nightreign.
In a deep dive on Nintendo’s new blog, Creator’s Voice, published on April 4, FromSoftware Director Hidetaka Miyazaki addressed the studio’s direction. He emphasized that despite the focus on multiplayer games, FromSoftware will continue to develop their traditional single-player titles.
Miyazaki stated, "While The Duskbloods is fundamentally an online multiplayer game, this doesn’t indicate a shift towards a multiplayer-centric future for our studio." He further noted, "We are also excited about the Nintendo Switch 2 version of Elden Ring, and we are dedicated to creating single-player games that embody our classic style."
The Importance of Blood in The Duskbloods

Miyazaki shed light on the game’s narrative and setting, which revolves around the theme of blood. Players will embody "Bloodsworn," individuals with superhuman abilities derived from special blood. Drawing parallels to vampires, Miyazaki clarified that the Bloodsworn would not be portrayed as traditional monstrous figures.
The storyline sees Bloodsworn vying for "The First Blood," which emerges during "The Twilight of Humanity," an event spanning various eras and locations.

Detailing the game’s environments, Miyazaki mentioned, "Players will explore maps ranging from Gothic and Victorian styles to those depicting the final years of the early modern period, such as the setting with the train shown in the trailer."
In The Duskbloods, blood serves as a conceptual element, symbolizing the game’s central themes. Miyazaki elaborated, "Blood represents the history it carries, the power it bestows, the destinies it shapes, and the mark of those who transcend human limitations."
Wide Variety of Characters and Online Multiplayer

The trailer for The Duskbloods showcased a diverse array of characters, each with distinct designs and personalities. Miyazaki confirmed that players can choose from over a dozen characters, with options for customization. He expressed, "The uniqueness in character designs and weaponry should allow players to find their favorites."
At the game’s hub, players select and customize their characters before diving into online multiplayer sessions supporting up to 8 players. After matches, players return to the hub to collect rewards, which mainly consist of character customization items.

Matches typically end when only one player remains, though different victory conditions can alter the gameplay. Players might need to defeat a formidable boss or meet other special requirements.
Miyazaki explained, "Whether it's PvP or PvE, our goal is to create an experience where players can learn and improve their skills. PvE boss fights are designed to be challenging, providing a sense of achievement upon victory."

He also introduced the concept of "roles," which assign special duties and objectives to players. Although specifics are still being finalized, Miyazaki mentioned roles like "Destined Rivals," where players seek out and defeat a designated opponent, and "Destined Companion," where forming a bond with a chosen partner yields unique rewards.
He added, "Roles can be tailored through blood customization, enhancing the role-playing aspect and adding depth to player interactions."
