During my travels through Portugal last year, one of the most promising upcoming titles I had the pleasure of testing was Devil's Purge. Developed by Ontop, this augmented reality shooter tasks players with battling demons and even the Devil himself, all accompanied by a high-octane heavy metal soundtrack.
If you've been hesitating to dive into Devil's Purge, now is the perfect moment to join in. Not only is the soundtrack expanding, but the game is also going free-to-play.
Sort of. Drawing inspiration from its iconic predecessor, Doom, Devil's Purge is adopting a shareware-style approach. Players can enjoy several introductory levels at no cost, with the option to purchase the full game later.
In Devil's Purge, movement isn't just for show—it plays a crucial role in dodging enemy attacks and exposing their vulnerabilities. So while it may resemble an AR experience, the demonic theme makes it clear this is far from Pokémon GO.
Take Action! The update brings a fresh batch of tracks to the already punishing soundtrack, featuring music from indie metal bands such as Avesso, Visceral, Zero Massive, Tales for the Unspoken, and more. With over 60 levels and a revamped combat system allowing customization of equipment from the start using resources from prior sessions, there has never been a better time to challenge the forces of darkness!
The free-to-play transition begins today, and you can find Devil's Purge on the iOS App Store.
In the meantime, if you're looking for something entirely different, check out our regular feature where Catherine Dellosa shares her thoughts on the cozy culinary simulation Cat Restaurant, available to play ahead of its official release.
