Xbox CEO Phil Spencer Reflects on Past Mistakes and Future Plans
In a recent interview at PAX West 2024, Xbox CEO Phil Spencer openly discussed past decisions, acknowledging some significant missed opportunities. He specifically highlighted the "worst" choices made regarding major franchises, including Bungie's Destiny and Harmonix's Guitar Hero.
Spencer, who joined Xbox during Bungie's time under Microsoft, shared his complex feelings about Destiny. While appreciating the learning experience from working alongside Bungie, he admitted the franchise initially didn't resonate with him, only finding appreciation later with the House of Wolves expansion. Similarly, he confessed to initial skepticism towards Guitar Hero when it was first pitched.
Despite these setbacks, Spencer emphasized his forward-looking approach, choosing not to dwell on past regrets. He stated, "I'm not a regrets-type person," highlighting the numerous games passed on throughout his career.
