Following the reveal of the Nintendo Switch 2, it's evident that the partnership between Nintendo and Xbox will continue to thrive. Microsoft's head of gaming, Phil Spencer, recently reaffirmed his commitment to the Switch platform, emphasizing its role in reaching gamers who are not part of the Xbox or PC communities.
In a recent interview with Variety, Spencer addressed potential projects for the Nintendo Switch 2, stating, "Nintendo has been a great partner. We think it is a unique way for us to reach players who aren’t PC players, who aren’t players on Xbox." He highlighted the importance of expanding their community and investing in their franchises to engage with a broader audience.
Spencer expressed his admiration for Nintendo's impact on the gaming industry, saying, "I’m really a big believer in what Nintendo means for this industry and us continuing to support them. And getting the support from them for our franchises, I think, is an important part of our future."Spencer has long been a vocal supporter of the Nintendo Switch 2, praising Nintendo's innovative approach when the console was first teased. He confirmed Xbox's strategy to bring more of its games to various platforms, including PlayStation, Steam, and Nintendo's consoles.
When asked if the Switch 2 reveal spurred Xbox to hasten announcements about their console lineup, Spencer remained focused on Xbox's own path, stating, "No. I think all of us in this industry should focus on our communities and the player base that we’re building. I get inspired by what a lot of different creators do and other platform holders. But I believe in the plans that we have."
He reiterated Xbox's commitment to delivering games across multiple platforms, including cloud, PC, and consoles. Titles like Pentiment and Obsidian's Grounded have already been released on Nintendo platforms, and it will be intriguing to see what Xbox has in store for the Switch 2 once it launches.
