Nintendo has issued an important safety notice to Switch 2 owners regarding summer gameplay. The company's Japanese customer service team recently cautioned players about operating the console in extreme outdoor temperatures.
Temperature Guidelines for Safe Play
Through its official social media channels, Nintendo reminded users that the Switch 2's optimal operating range falls between 5°C and 35°C (41°F to 95°F). "With recent temperatures exceeding 35°C, we advise caution during outdoor use," the statement read.
This isn't the first such warning from Nintendo - similar guidance was issued for the original Switch during Japan's 2022 heatwave. At that time, the company emphasized keeping the console's ventilation ports clear to prevent overheating.
Japan's Current Heatwave Conditions
The warning comes as Tokyo faces excessive heat alerts, with forecasts predicting 37°C (99°F) temperatures for August 5. Nintendo reiterated: "Using Switch devices in high-temperature environments may cause temperature increases that could lead to malfunctions. Please use within the recommended 5–35°C range."
The advisory presents two options for players: monitor your outdoor gaming environment carefully, or embrace the perfect excuse for some quality indoor gaming time. As one Nintendo representative joked, "Consider this official permission to enjoy Donkey Kong Bananza with the curtains drawn."
