Snow White, directed by Marc Webb of The Amazing Spider-Man fame, experienced a challenging opening weekend at the box office, pulling in a domestic total of $43 million. This figure marks one of the lowest debuts for any Disney remake to date, falling short of the $45 million opening achieved by the live-action Dumbo in 2019 and below industry expectations. Despite this, Snow White managed to secure the top spot on the domestic charts for the week and ranked as the second highest domestic opening of 2025, trailing only behind the MCU's Captain America: Brave New World.
For perspective, other Disney remakes such as 2019’s The Lion King, 2017’s Beauty and the Beast, 2016’s The Jungle Book, and 2023’s The Little Mermaid all surpassed the $100 million mark during their domestic opening weekends.
Internationally, Snow White's performance was similarly underwhelming, with an opening weekend gross of $44.3 million. This brings the global box office total to $87.3 million, according to Comscore estimates.
The film, a live-action adaptation of Disney's 1937 animated classic, stars Rachel Zegler as Snow White and Gal Gadot as the Evil Queen. With a hefty production budget reportedly over $250 million, the movie faces a steep climb to profitability, especially when factoring in marketing expenses.
However, there is hope for Snow White. Disney's previous experience with Mufasa: The Lion King, which opened to a modest $35.4 million domestically but went on to earn over $717 million worldwide, suggests that a similar sleeper hit scenario could be possible. Disney will be banking on this kind of turnaround for Snow White amidst ongoing discussions about the performance of Captain America: Brave New World, which has grossed $400.8 million globally after six weekends ($192.1 million domestic and $208.7 million international).
IGN's review of Snow White awarded it a 7/10, praising the film for its meaningful adaptation of the original story rather than merely replicating it.
