To achieve the best ending in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, completing specific tasks is crucial, and one of these tasks involves rescuing Sam. Here's a detailed guide on how to find and save Sam during the "Reckoning" quest, ensuring you're on the path to the game's optimal conclusion.
Rescuing Sam During "Reckoning"
As you approach the climax of the main quest line, you'll discover that Sam is being held captive at Praguer’s Camp, captured by Brabant. Your mission to save him occurs during the "Reckoning" quest. Infiltrating the camp requires either stealth or a more direct approach.
To navigate the camp without raising alarms, you'll need a guard's outfit. You can obtain this by either killing a guard and hiding their body or by looting one from the numerous chests scattered around the camp. Once you have the outfit, equip it to move freely within the camp.

Sam is located in a barn on the left side of the camp, beyond an open area with a cooking fire. Access the barn by using the ladder on its side and dropping down inside, where you'll confront Brabant. At this juncture, you face a critical decision: you can either kill or spare Brabant. Opting to spare him contributes to achieving the best ending.
When to Rescue Sam
After freeing Sam, it's not immediately time to escape with him. Sam informs you about von Aulitz, who is also within the camp. It's advisable to deal with von Aulitz first, then secure a horse, before returning to Sam for the escape. Sam can wait safely in the barn while you complete these tasks.
Von Aulitz is found in the main part of the camp. With your guard outfit, you can enter his quarters without suspicion. Upon finding von Aulitz, who is already dying, he requests a dignified death. Granting him this request is the most honorable choice, though you also have the option to kill him cruelly or leave him to die slowly. Interestingly, leaving him to die aligns with the best ending.
Once you've dealt with von Aulitz, return to Sam in the barn. If questioned by a guard about moving Sam, simply state that you're handling a body, which will dispel any suspicion. Proceed to the camp's gates, exit, and turn right to circle around the camp's exterior.

As you follow the camp's perimeter, you'll reach the stables. Choose a horse, mount up with Sam, and make your escape. This successful rescue brings you one step closer to completing the main quests of Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 and achieving the best possible ending.
