Chibi-Robo! is set to join the Nintendo Switch Online library on the Nintendo Switch 2 as early as next week, marking another GameCube classic coming to the service.
Nintendo's eShop summary had already confirmed the adorable platformer was on the way, but we now have an official release date: August 21, 2025. It will be the second title added to the catalog since the Switch 2’s June launch, following Super Mario Strikers (known as Mario Smash Football in Europe).
Nintendo Switch Online is a subscription service that enables online play for the Nintendo Switch, letting you team up or compete with friends. It also offers a growing collection of classic Nintendo games from systems like the NES, SNES, Game Boy, Nintendo 64, and the newly introduced GameCube library. A free seven-day trial is available for new users.
Current GameCube titles on the service include The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker, F-Zero GX, Soulcalibur 2, and Super Mario Strikers. Future additions are expected to feature games like Super Mario Sunshine, Luigi's Mansion, Pokémon XD: Gale of Darkness, and others. For the full retro experience, an officially licensed GameCube controller replica is also available.
Back in 2006, Chibi-Robo! earned an IGN Editor’s Choice award with a score of 8.2/10. Our review urged players to "Give [it] a chance," praising its unique charm.
"It’s easy to dismiss this game as too quirky or too cute at a glance," we noted in IGN's Chibi-Robo! review. "While it is both, it’s also a delightful, engaging, and satisfying puzzle-platformer."
As for the Nintendo Switch 2, the console is off to a solid start with 3.5 million units sold. However, an analysis of launch week sales indicates varying performance for third-party titles compared to Nintendo’s own releases.
