Activision confirms that Call of Duty: Black Ops 6's Directed mode has significantly boosted main quest completion rates. While many Black Ops 6 Zombies players prioritize survival, Directed mode has proven instrumental in driving narrative engagement.
The Call of Duty Zombies mode, introduced in World at War, has always featured a storyline, which has grown increasingly complex over time. Despite a general decline in Black Ops 6's overall player base, the Zombies mode maintains a dedicated and sizable community. The core gameplay, a wave-based survival challenge, often leaves players focused on upgrading weapons and defenses rather than story progression. Directed mode, added in Season 1, has dramatically changed this.
A recent blog post reveals that Directed mode has nearly doubled the main quest completion rate, from 4% to 8.23%. This data is based on a staggering 480 million hours of gameplay, with a small portion post-Directed mode's November 14th launch. Treyarch's goal of increasing main quest participation is considered a success, though they acknowledge that over 90% of players still don't complete the story and are actively exploring further improvements.
Call of Duty: Black Ops 6's Directed Mode: A Significant Improvement
Included in Black Ops 6's Season 1 update (alongside three new maps and two game modes), Directed mode provides structured guidance for players navigating the complex Zombies storyline. This storyline, spanning interdimensional travel, zero-point energy, and time manipulation, can be challenging for newcomers. While previous installments largely left players to decipher the narrative independently, Directed mode offers a more accessible path.
The introduction of Directed mode has already resulted in higher main quest completion rates than ever before. As Treyarch continues to update Black Ops 6, further refinements to both the Zombies mode and Directed mode are anticipated to further enhance these statistics.
