As if they could resist putting Alicia Silverstone back in the yellow and plaid. The iconic actress is reportedly set to reprise her starring role as Cher Horowitz in a highly anticipated Clueless sequel series for Peacock.
According to Variety, the series is currently in development with the streamer, though exact plot details are being kept under wraps. What we do know is that Silverstone will return, the show will continue the story from the beloved 1995 film, and it features a strong creative team. This new project differs from the Clueless spin-off Peacock had planned in 2020.
Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage, known for co-creating the original Gossip Girl series and executive producing its reboot, will write the series alongside Jordan Weiss. The trio will also executive produce, joined by Amy Heckerling, the original writer-director of Clueless, and Robert Lawrence, the film's original producer. CBS Studios and Universal Television are set to produce the series.
This isn't the first time Clueless has been adapted for the small screen. Following the film's success, a television version aired on ABC and UPN from 1996 to 1999, with Rachel Blanchard taking on the role of Cher instead of Silverstone.
Silverstone recently donned Cher's iconic look again for a 2023 Super Bowl commercial for Rakuten, showing her enthusiasm to step back into Cher's world. We can't wait to see what new adventures await in this fresh take on a classic.
