A strategic board game originating from West Africa
Known as Awele, Ayo, or Oware, Awale belongs to the Mancala family and is typically played by two participants. It shares similarities with East African variants like Omweso, Bao, and Igisoro.
The game requires 8 holes per player and 64 seeds.
Each player's territory consists of the row of holes nearest to them.
The objective is to capture your opponent's seeds strategically, limiting their ability to continue playing.
Other notable games in the Mancala family include Ayo, Kisoro, and Omweso.
Historical evidence suggests Mancala games were first developed in Ethiopia during the Aksumite Kingdom era.
