SwitchArcade Round-Up: ‘Emio: The Smiling Man’, ‘Gundam Breaker 4’, Plus Today’s Other Releases and Sales

Author : Savannah Update:Feb 02,2025

Hello, game enthusiasts! Welcome to the SwitchArcade Round-Up for August 29th, 2024. Today's roundup features a substantial lineup of new releases, forming the core of this Thursday's column. We'll also explore a noteworthy selection of new sales. Let's dive into the games!

Featured New Releases

Emio – The Smiling Man: Famicom Detective Club ($49.99)

The Famicom Detective Club returns after a long hiatus with a new case. This release stays true to the original games' style, both its strengths and weaknesses. A fresh mystery awaits, presented similarly to the recent Switch remakes. Can you crack the latest serial murder case? My review is coming soon.

Gundam Breaker 4 ($59.99)

Mikhail's comprehensive review provides an in-depth look at the gameplay and Switch performance. In short: build and battle Gunpla. While the Switch port naturally lags behind other versions in performance, it's still a satisfactory experience. Read Mikhail's excellent review for a complete breakdown.

Shadow of the Ninja – Reborn ($19.99)

Tengo Project continues its successful streak of remakes/reimaginings. Following Wild Guns Reloaded, The Ninja Saviors, and Pocky & Rocky, they now tackle an 8-bit classic. This differs significantly from its source material. However, if you crave a classic-style action-platformer, this is a solid choice. My review will be available early next week.

Valfaris: Mecha Therion ($19.99)

A Valfaris sequel, but with a twist. This is a 2.5D side-scrolling shooter, a departure from the original's gameplay. While the genre shift might surprise some, it offers enjoyable gameplay. My review is forthcoming.

Nour: Play With Your Food ($9.99)

I'll admit, I'm not entirely sure what this game entails. The food imagery is stunning, but the gameplay remains a mystery. Photography? Secret-finding? Perhaps Mikhail will investigate further.

Monster Jam Showdown ($49.99)

For monster truck enthusiasts. Features local and online multiplayer, multiple game modes. Reception on other platforms has been mixed, but it might appeal to fans of the genre.

WitchSpring R ($39.99)

Possibly a remake of the original WitchSpring, a mobile game often compared to the Atelier series. At this price point, close to a full-priced Atelier title, it's a tougher sell. However, it appears to be the most polished WitchSpring entry yet.

Depths of Sanity ($19.99)

An underwater exploration game with a fantastical horror theme. Investigate your missing crew's fate in a vast, dangerous underwater world. Combat is involved. Well-received on other platforms.

Voltaire: The Vegan Vampire ($19.99)

A farming and action game where a vegan vampire confronts his bloodthirsty father. While I'm personally somewhat fatigued by this genre, it might appeal to those seeking a different kind of farming simulator.

Marble Abduction! Patti Hattu ($11.79)

A marble-rolling game with 70 stages and 80 marbles to collect. Features secret collectibles and challenges. Classic marble-rolling gameplay.

Leo: The Firefighter Cat ($24.99)

A firefighting game aimed at a younger audience, featuring 20 missions.

Gori: Cuddly Carnage ($21.99)

A grotesque action game starring a hoverboarding cat. While the core gameplay is decent, the Switch version suffers from technical issues.

Arcade Archives Finalizer Super Transformation ($7.99)

A 1985 Konami vertical shooter featuring a transforming robot protagonist. A charming, classic shooter experience.

EGGCONSOLE Xanadu Scenario II PC-8801mkIISR ($6.49)

An early expansion pack, featuring a new underworld to explore. Features music by Yuzo Koshiro.

The Backrooms: Survival ($10.99)

A blend of horror, survival, and roguelite elements. Supports up to 10 online players.

Can of Wormholes ($19.99)

A puzzle game where you're a sentient tin can battling worms. Features 100 puzzles.

Ninja I & II ($9.99)

Two NES-style microgames with a ninja theme. Features competitive local multiplayer.

Dice Make 10! ($3.99)

A dice-based puzzle game with two modes: falling blocks and placement puzzles.
