Jason Momoa is set to bring the iconic character Lobo to life in the 2026 DC Universe movie Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow. Previously known for his role as Aquaman in the now-defunct DC Extended Universe (DCEU), Momoa will transition to the rebooted DC Universe (DCU) to portray this beloved antihero.
Lobo, an alien interstellar mercenary and bounty hunter from the planet Czarnia, boasts superhuman strength and immortality. He shares a tragic similarity with Superman, being the last survivor of his now-extinct world. Created by Roger Slifer and Keith Giffen, Lobo first appeared in Omega Men #3 in 1983.
Momoa's enthusiasm for the role is palpable, as he has stated that Lobo is his favorite comic book character. He has also noted the aesthetic similarities between himself and Lobo, which makes the casting a fitting choice. In an interview with ScreenRant, Momoa shared his excitement and nerves about taking on the character, saying, "Well, this is the role I've always wanted to play. That’s the comic I loved, so I'm really nervous about it. It’s kind of a no-brainer to play this character."

Momoa teased that fans will get a good, albeit brief, look at Lobo in Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow. He described the character as "pretty rough and gruff" and hinted at the iconic bike that Lobo rides, saying, "I'll say the bike’s really cool." When asked about his screen time, Momoa clarified, "It’s her movie, so it's great. I just come in for a little bit."
In January, DC co-chief James Gunn shared the first photo of Milly Alcock as Supergirl on Bluesky, marking the beginning of filming for the movie. Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow is heavily inspired by the graphic novel of the same name by Tom King, Bilquis Evely, and Ana Norgueira. The story follows an alien girl named Ruthye Marye Knoll who enlists Supergirl's help to avenge her father's murder by the villain Krem of the Yellow Hills.
The film's cast also includes Matthias Schoenaerts as Krem, Eve Ridley as Ruthye, David Krumholtz as Supergirl's father Zor-El, and Emily Beecham as Supergirl's mother.
Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow is slated for release in June 2026, making it the second movie in the new DCU following James Gunn's Superman, set to hit theaters this summer. The DCU will continue to expand with the Clayface movie scheduled for September 2026.
