Nintendo Unveils Virtual Game Card System to Hide Game Cards

Author : Caleb Update:May 15,2025

Nintendo has rolled out its new Virtual Game Card (VGC) system with the latest Switch update, providing users with enhanced privacy options for their game collections. If you're keen on keeping your game cards out of sight, you'll be pleased to know that you can now hide them from your acquired list on Nintendo's VGC portal. This feature ensures that any games you've tucked away won't be visible to others browsing your list, offering a layer of discretion for whatever reasons you might have.

I personally tested this feature and successfully hid games such as Suikoden I&II HD Remaster and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. While these games remain visible on my OLED Switch when installed or loaded, they vanish from the list once uninstalled. This functionality means your hidden games stay private, but you'll need to manage them carefully.

Nintendo's new Virtual Game Card system is live now on the Switch ahead of the Switch 2's launch.

To manage your hidden games, navigate to your games list through "Redownload Software" on your Switch. However, to view the hidden games, you'll need to access the "Can't Find Software?" section and log into your Nintendo account. Similarly, on the Nintendo website, hidden games are tucked away behind the "Can't Find Software?" option in a separate folder.

If you're sharing your console and want to keep certain games like Mortal Kombat or Doom out of reach, this could serve as a useful parental control feature. Or perhaps you have some titles in your Switch catalog that you'd rather not flaunt at social gatherings. Either way, the ability to hide Virtual Game Cards adds a valuable privacy layer.

Alongside this privacy feature, the latest update includes redesigned icons, a system transfer feature in preparation for the upcoming Switch 2, and the closure of a popular game sharing loophole. To learn more about these updates, you can delve into the details of the new Nintendo Switch firmware update here.
