Nintendo has officially confirmed that the highly anticipated The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom for the Nintendo Switch 2 will indeed support cloud saves, putting to rest any lingering concerns among fans. This news comes after initial reports and disclaimers on Nintendo's website suggested otherwise, causing a stir in the gaming community.
Originally, the pages for the Switch 2 version of Tears of the Kingdom included a notice stating: "Please note: this software does not support the Nintendo Switch Online paid membership’s Save Data Cloud backup feature." This led to worries that some enhanced versions of Switch 1 games for the new console might not include this crucial feature.
However, Nintendo has since updated its website with clearer information. While the page for Donkey Kong Bananza has removed all references to cloud saves, the disclaimer on the Tears of the Kingdom page has been revised to read: "Save data created in the second save data slot in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition cannot be transferred to The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom on Nintendo Switch." This indicates that players will be able to transfer their existing Switch 1 saves to the Switch 2, but transferring saves from the Switch 2 back to the original Switch will not be possible.
Similarly, the page for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition now features the same message, indicating a consistent approach to save transfers across these titles.
In other news, pre-orders for the Nintendo Switch 2 went live overnight, maintaining a price point of $449.99. The response was as enthusiastic as expected. For more details on securing your own Switch 2, check out IGN's comprehensive Nintendo Switch 2 pre-order guide.
