WoW Patch 11.1 Introduces Two New Races

Summary

• Patch 11.1 in World of Warcraft introduces Breakneck D.R.I.V.E. races and Skyrocket races with Goblin jetpacks.
• The Undermine zone in Patch 11.1 does not allow flying, instead using customizable cars and jetpacks.
• Skyrocket races feature challenges such as ring collection, speed, and increased difficulty.

World of Warcraft is set to enhance its gameplay with the introduction of two exciting new race types in Patch 11.1: the Breakneck D.R.I.V.E. races and Skyrocket races featuring flying Goblin jetpacks. These innovative races will take the place of Skyriding races in Undermine, the new zone featured in the first major content update for World of Warcraft: The War Within.

Patch 11.1, titled "Undermined," transports players to Undermine, a vast subterranean metropolis and the capital city of the Goblins. Despite its expansive nature, flying is prohibited within this zone. Instead, players will navigate using the D.R.I.V.E. system, a dynamic and customizable car that offers speeds surpassing those of Skyriding. World of Warcraft has also confirmed the introduction of Breakneck races, which will fully exploit the potential of the D.R.I.V.E. system.

In addition to the Breakneck races, Skyrocket races offer a fresh challenge. These races utilize Goblin jetpacks for aerial navigation, striking a balance between existing flying mechanics. Unlike Steady flight, where players can stop in mid-air, and Skyriding, where momentum and altitude can be lost, Skyrocket races ensure continuous movement. According to footage from the Public Test Realm shared by WoW content creator MrGM, collecting rings during the races increases speed, but also makes turning less responsive, adding an extra layer of difficulty to these races.

New Skyrocket Races in World of Warcraft Patch 11.1

With no Skyriding available in Undermine, the zone will not feature Skyriding races. However, both Breakneck and Skyrocket races will offer achievements for achieving Bronze, Silver, and Gold times in each race. Additionally, there are reverse versions of all four Skyrocket and D.R.I.V.E. Breakneck races, although there are no Advanced or Challenge courses akin to some Skyriding races.

All Skyrocket and Breakneck Races in World of Warcraft Patch 11.1

The initial reception to the Skyrocket races has been varied. While some players are eager to experience them, others have criticized the jetpack flying mechanics as stiff and unresponsive when compared to Skyriding. Fortunately, as World of Warcraft Patch 11.1 remains in development, there is ample opportunity for refinement before its expected release in February.
