Tango Gameworks, the developer behind Hi-Fi Rush, has launched its newly designed website and confirmed it is currently developing an unannounced action game.
The site, featuring fresh branding and a careers page recruiting for this undisclosed project, states that Tango Gameworks' central mission is to "create new games and expand intellectual properties" as an "independent development studio based in Tokyo, Japan" under Krafton.
In May 2024, Microsoft announced the closure of several Bethesda studios, including Tango Gameworks and Arkane Austin, the developer of Redfall. The announcement sparked widespread shock and frustration among developers and fans, particularly after Microsoft executive Aaron Greenberg had previously praised Hi-Fi Rush as a "breakout hit for [Xbox] and its players across all key metrics and expectations."
PUBG publisher Krafton subsequently acquired Tango Gameworks and the Hi-Fi Rush IP from Microsoft in August 2024, rescuing the studio from impending closure. Krafton shared the news in a press release, confirming that "as part of this strategic agreement, Krafton intends to collaborate with Xbox and ZeniMax to ensure a smooth transition, maintain operational continuity at Tango Gameworks, and enable the talented team to continue developing the Hi-Fi Rush IP while exploring future projects."
"After months of anticipation, Tango Gameworks is officially back and operating in a completely new capacity," the studio's new website declares. "We've launched this site to offer our fans and prospective team members a glimpse into our studio culture. Here, you can learn about our philosophy and watch featurettes from our team members."
"Since becoming part of Krafton, Tango Gameworks is beginning a new chapter, creating games that engage players worldwide," the company added. "We remain committed to developing and growing unique new intellectual properties, embracing challenges to establish a distinct voice within the gaming industry."
Tango further explained that its vision is "centered on a studio that functions like a creative workshop, producing games and experiences that highlight the 'handcrafted' quality we instill in our work."
What exactly is this new game? It's too early to say. A news post published today mentions that Tango "isn't prepared to reveal many details yet" but "has multiple open positions for early development work on an unannounced action game."
"The open roles cover nearly every department, so if you're interested in collaborating with the team responsible for hit titles like Hi-Fi Rush, take some time to read about our studio philosophy." According to a machine translation of the senior-level designer position, Tango is seeking candidates with "experience developing 3D action games" using Unreal Engine 5. The cutscene manager job listing similarly requires 3D action game experience but provides no additional hints at this time. Could this be Hi-Fi Rush 2?
