Sydney Sweeney, best known for her role in *Madame Web* and HBO’s *Euphoria*, is reportedly in the final stages of negotiations to join the cast of the upcoming live-action *Mobile Suit Gundam* movie. This exciting development comes after it was confirmed earlier this year—back in February—that the highly anticipated film adaptation had officially entered production. The project is being co-financed by Bandai Namco and Legendary Entertainment.
The live-action *Mobile Suit Gundam* film, currently untitled, is being written and directed by Kim Mickle, the showrunner behind *Sweet Tooth*. It is set for a global theatrical release, although no official release date or plot details have been revealed yet. However, fans were treated to an official teaser poster when the project was announced:
According to Variety, Sweeney is in talks to take on a lead role in the film, though neither her character nor any story specifics have been disclosed at this time. This would mark another major franchise role for the rising star, who has recently appeared in projects such as *The White Lotus*, *Anyone But You*, and the controversial superhero film *Madame Web*. Just last month, she also signed on to produce and star in a horror movie based on a viral Reddit post.

Bandai Namco and Legendary have remained tight-lipped about the production, stating only that they intend to “steadily announce details as they become finalized.” They also emphasized the cultural significance of the *Mobile Suit Gundam* franchise, which first aired in 1979 and revolutionized the mecha genre with its grounded storytelling. Unlike earlier robot anime that focused on clear-cut battles between good and evil, *Gundam* introduced complex human drama, detailed war narratives, and scientific realism, all centered around humanoid weapons known as mobile suits.
