Producer Shinya Fujimatsu explained Konami's decision to choose mobile: "We wanted as many people as possible to experience Suikoden, so we chose mobile as the most accessible platform. And if we were going to do it, we wanted to ensure it truly captured the spirit of Suikoden, so we're taking on the challenge of creating a numbered entry."
The team's ambition is clear: to blend console-quality visuals, sound, and storytelling with the convenience of mobile accessibility.
Capturing the Essence of Suikoden in STAR LEAP
Fujimatsu highlighted the unique aspects of Suikoden, emphasizing its blend of war themes and profound friendships. He stated, "In Suikoden STAR LEAP, it's crucial to depict the story of the new 108 Stars, a key element of the Suikoden experience."
Director Yoshiki Meng Shan further elaborated on the series' characteristics: "The upbeat atmosphere focusing on friendships alongside serious narrative moments is key. Another unique aspect is the battle tempo, with the collaborative efforts of numerous characters participating in battles."
A Unique Blend: Sequel and Prequel
STAR LEAP cleverly serves as both a sequel and prequel, traversing different eras within the Suikoden timeline. It's a brand-new installment, officially canon to the series. The story begins two years prior to the events of Suikoden I, but will also explore other eras, creating a unique narrative that bridges the gap between Suikoden I and V.
