Suikoden 1 and 2 HD Remaster's Development Time Was Longer Than Expected
Developers Wanted To Honor The Originals

The developers poured their hearts into crafting a faithful remaster of Suikoden 1 and 2, dedicating five years to the project. In a candid interview with Dengeki Online on March 4, 2025, the team behind Suikoden I & II HD Remaster (Suikoden 1 and 2 HDR) shared insights into the painstaking process of delivering a high-quality remaster.
Originally announced in 2022 with a planned release in 2023, the game faced delays and is now set to launch this year. Takahiro Sakiyama, the IP and Game Director of the Suikoden Gensho series, explained that as the team neared the end of development, extensive debugging revealed the need for further refinement, leading to the postponement.
Tatsuya Ogushi, Game Director of Suikoden 1 and 2 HDR, emphasized their approach: "We started by understanding the situation thoroughly. After discussing with Sakiyama and setting our quality standards, it became evident that numerous aspects required significant attention and careful handling."
Reviving the Series

The remaster isn't just a standalone project; it's the first stride in reviving the Suikoden franchise. Rui Naito, the Suikoden series Producer, outlined their vision for the future, emphasizing the importance of this initial step.
Naito shared with the production team, "This remaster is crucial as it sets the stage for the Suikoden IP's revival. We couldn't afford to stumble at the start. The directive was clear: 'make it solid.'" He further elaborated, "For Suikoden I & II HDR, I urged Sakiyama and the team to create something robust. Launching a half-hearted product at the outset could have jeopardized the entire revival effort."

He stated, "We've been diligently refining Suikoden I & II HDR while also dedicating ourselves to the upcoming mobile game, Suikoden STAR LEAP, and the Suikoden II anime." Naito added, "Once we've successfully rolled out these projects, we can start planning our next moves."
Konami also announced "Suikoden: The Anime," an adaptation of Suikoden 2's story, marking the first venture into anime production for Konami Animation. Additionally, a new mobile game titled "Genso Suikoden: STAR LEAP" was revealed. While teaser trailers for both projects have been released, specific release dates remain under wraps.
With more projects and events on the horizon, Konami is committed to reigniting interest in the beloved Suikoden franchise.
