Jharrel Jerome, star of Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, has confirmed that production on the highly anticipated third installment, Beyond the Spider-Verse, hasn't even begun. He revealed to Decider that he hasn't yet recorded any lines, indicating a significant delay before the film's release.
Jerome stated that numerous aspects of the production are still "being figured out." This news, while disappointing to fans, isn't entirely unexpected, given the five-year gap between the first and second films.
"No, I wish," Jerome responded when asked about the commencement of production. "We haven’t started up yet. A lot of things being figured out, but good things."

While Jerome's role in the second film was relatively minor, his character is poised to become a central antagonist in the third. Spoiler alert for Across the Spider-Verse's ending: Jerome portrays Miles G. Morales from Earth-42, who emerges at the film's conclusion not as Spider-Man, but as the Prowler.
This alternate Miles's journey diverges significantly from the protagonist's. The radioactive spider bite intended for him instead affects the main timeline's Miles. Consequently, this Miles doesn't become Spider-Man, and following the death of his universe's Peter Parker, New York falls under the control of supervillains, with Miles himself becoming one.
The narrative's resolution, and the conflict between this villainous Miles and the heroic Spider-Man, will likely be explored in Beyond the Spider-Verse. However, fans should anticipate a considerable wait, with Deadline suggesting a 2026 release at the earliest, or potentially as late as 2028 if the previous film's release schedule is maintained.
