Sony's June 2025 State of Play showcase shattered records, achieving the highest peak concurrent viewership in the platform's history.
Launching the summer gaming season with explosive energy, Sony unveiled a feast of upcoming titles ahead of Summer Games Fest Week. Highlights included first looks at 007 First Light, Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls, Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles, Romeo is a Dead Man, and Silent Hill f.
Streams Charts reports this State of Play made history with 2.2 million simultaneous viewers - the showcase's highest ever peak. The data places it as 2025's third most-watched gaming or tech presentation in terms of peak viewership, trailing only two Nintendo Direct broadcasts (with the Switch 2 reveal unsurprisingly leading the pack).
While groundbreaking for State of Play, Push Square notes Sony's livestream record still belongs to the PS5 reveal (44 million views), followed by Horizon Forbidden West (15 million) and Horizon Forbidden Dawn (10 million) showcases. Tuesday's broadcast nevertheless dominated as the most-viewed State of Play ever.
The presentation heavily featured third-party Japanese developers, with major reveals from Capcom, Grasshopper Manufacture, Konami, ArtPlay, Square Enix, and Team Ninja. First-party PlayStation titles were conspicuously scarce.
This year's showcase clearly targeted dedicated gamers, with action-packed, potentially mature-rated titles dominating the lineup.
