In 2020, a fan of Batman: Arkham Knight living with schizophrenia reached out to Kevin Conroy, the voice behind Batman, through the Cameo service. Expecting a typical 30-second message, the fan was instead gifted with over six minutes of heartfelt encouragement. Conroy, touched by the fan's personal story, went beyond a standard response, creating a video that would become a lifeline for the fan during his darkest times.
The fan, inspired by the game's narrative where Batman battles his own fears, paranoia, and hallucinations, saw a parallel to his own struggles with schizophrenia. He shared with Conroy how the Dark Knight's journey gave him the strength to persevere. The video from Conroy, filled with genuine support and understanding, proved to be a powerful source of comfort.
"This video has saved me from suicide countless times," the fan shared on Reddit. "Hearing Batman say he believed in me was incredibly powerful... But as time went on, it became just as important that it was Kevin himself who believed in me."
Initially hesitant to share the video, the fan decided to make it public after learning that Conroy had a brother who also suffered from schizophrenia. He hoped that the video could offer inspiration to others facing similar challenges.
"If someone in his family asks me to delete this video, I will of course do so," he stated. "But it has inspired me in my toughest moments, and maybe it will inspire someone else. Hang in there. Because Batman believes in you."
Tragically, Kevin Conroy passed away on November 10, 2022, at the age of 66. Yet, his legacy and the impact of his words continue to resonate with fans worldwide, offering hope and strength.
