Rocksteady Studios is actively seeking a Game Director for its next major project, as evidenced by a job posting from Warner Bros. Discovery on February 17th.
The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of game design, from core mechanics and player progression to combat and mission structure. The ideal candidate possesses extensive experience across diverse genres, including third-person action, open-world adventures, and melee combat titles. This has fueled speculation about a potential return to the Batman franchise, the series that propelled Rocksteady to prominence.
The requirements outlined in the job description strongly align with the Batman: Arkham series, unlike the studio's recent release, Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, which emphasized gunplay over close-quarters combat.
Given the early stages of recruitment, the new game is likely still in its conceptual phase. Industry analyst Jason Schreier suggests that, should Rocksteady indeed develop a new single-player Batman title, it wouldn't launch for several years.

Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, released February 2nd, 2024, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC (Steam), received a mixed reception, scoring 63/100 on Metacritic (critics) and 4.2/10 (users).
Previous reports hinted at a Rocksteady return to the Batman universe, possibly inspired by the Batman Beyond animated series.
