One Piece Star Mackenyu Brings Life to Gennojo in Assassin’s Creed Shadows
Mackenyu, renowned for his portrayal of Roronoa Zoro in the global phenomenon One Piece, steps into the world of Assassin’s Creed Shadows. The highly anticipated installment in Ubisoft’s flagship RPG series introduces Gennojo, a key character voiced by Mackenyu in both Japanese and English. According to Ubisoft, Gennojo plays a critical role in aiding the protagonist in tracking and eliminating a significant target.
“Gennojo is a charismatic, impulsive, and deeply conflicted individual,” Ubisoft described the character. “Driven by guilt, he seeks to dismantle a corrupt system. A flirtatious rogue with a knack for mischief, Gennojo balances wit, deceit, and bravado while navigating moral dilemmas. Though his outward demeanor is rugged, he harbors a strong sense of justice, particularly toward supporting the underprivileged and elderly.”
While details remain scarce regarding when players will encounter Gennojo, Ubisoft confirmed his importance within the game’s storyline. Mackenyu revealed that Gennojo belongs to a secretive organization known as the "Shinobi League." Players will have the opportunity to recruit Gennojo as a companion, joining forces with him throughout their journey.
