The long-anticipated remake of Persona 4 is inching closer to reality, as voice actor Yuri Lowenthal confirms he won’t be reprising his role as Yosuke Hanamura in the unannounced project. Lowenthal, who has voiced Yosuke across multiple entries in the Persona series, shared the news on BlueSky, stating, “And for those who keep asking, no, I will not be returning as Yosuke for the Persona 4 remake. I asked. Maybe I even begged, but they don’t want me to come back.”
While Atlus has yet to officially confirm the remake, Lowenthal’s statement adds significant weight to ongoing rumors. The company, now under Sega’s umbrella, has remained silent, and we’ve reached out to Sega/Atlus for comment.
Voice actors represented by SAG-AFTRA are currently on strike over key issues, including AI protections and fair compensation. Though it's unclear if union-related matters influenced the casting decision, the broader industry conflict remains unresolved. In a March statement, SAG-AFTRA noted they are still “frustratingly far apart” from the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers in negotiations.
Despite the lack of official word, speculation about a Persona 4 remake has been building for months. A registered domain related to the game earlier this year fueled excitement, and various leaks have hinted at its development. With the successful launch of Persona 3 Reload, a modern reimagining of another fan-favorite entry, a Persona 4 remake feels like a natural next step.
Timing-wise, Persona 3 Reload was revealed during Xbox’s 2023 Game Showcase. It’s possible we could see similar news this summer, as major gaming events heat up.
On the spin-off front, Persona 5: The Phantom X, the mobile and PC-exclusive entry in the series, is set to launch globally on June 26, 2025—offering fans a fresh dose of Persona 5 action in the meantime.
