The release of Peacemaker Season 2 follows closely on the heels of the Superman movie, set to hit theaters on July 11. This film marks the official launch of Gunn's rebooted DC Universe (DCU), with Peacemaker Season 2 being the third entry in this new cinematic universe, following the Creature Commandos TV series from last year and the upcoming Superman film.
Gunn and co-CEO Peter Safran are steering the DCU away from the previously criticized DC Extended Universe (DCEU), which included films like Justice League, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and Man of Steel. However, certain elements from the DCEU will carry over into the new DCU. Peacemaker serves as a prime example of this transition, having debuted in the DCEU with its first season and now continuing in the new DCU with its second.
Gunn has previously stated that "many strands will remain consistent as far as Peacemaker's story goes," though specifics on what will transition from the DCEU to the DCU remain undisclosed. He has confirmed that all members of Team Peacemaker will return, with the same actors reprising their roles.
