Path of Exile 1 Update Delayed Due to Path of Exile 2 Issues
Grinding Gear Games (GGG) has issued an apology to Path of Exile 1 players for the indefinite delay of the 3.26 update. The update, initially slated for late October 2024 and then mid-February 2025, has been postponed due to the unexpected challenges encountered with the launch of Path of Exile 2.
GGG had previously committed to continued support for Path of Exile 1, even after the release of its sequel. However, the Path of Exile 1 development team was reassigned to assist with Path of Exile 2's endgame development before its December 2024 launch. While GGG initially believed they could return to Path of Exile 1's 3.26 update in time for its February target, the unforeseen issues—including crashes and balance problems—with Path of Exile 2 necessitated their continued focus on the sequel.
In a video message, Game Director Jonathan Rogers acknowledged the studio's miscalculation, stating they were "fooling ourselves" about having sufficient time. He explained the decision to prioritize Path of Exile 2's stability, given its immediate post-launch issues.
The delay means Path of Exile 1 remains on the 3.25 update (Settlers of Kalguur league), its last league release being in July 2024. While a new release date for 3.26 is currently unavailable, Rogers assured players that a plan is in place for its eventual release. The team will continue working on Path of Exile 2 until at least version 0.2.0, and possibly a couple of weeks beyond.
Path of Exile 2, launched on December 6th, 2024, for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S, has been a significant success, becoming one of Steam's most played games ever. Despite this success, the initial launch was plagued with issues that required immediate attention.
