During today's Nintendo Switch 2 Direct, Nintendo unveiled that nearly all games from the original Nintendo Switch library will be compatible with the Nintendo Switch 2. However, a select few titles are set to receive enhanced "Nintendo Switch 2 Edition" versions, boasting unique features. Among these titles are The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Tears of the Kingdom, Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, Kirby and the Forgotten Land, Pokemon Legends: Z-A, and Mario Party: Jamboree.
Each of these upgraded versions comes with game-specific enhancements. The spotlight opened with Super Mario Party: Jamboree, which introduces a new feature called "Jamboree TV". This upgrade includes mouse controls, audio recognition, enhanced rumble, and gameplay that utilizes a new camera accessory.
Next up, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom will benefit from improved resolution, higher framerates, and HDR support. Additionally, these games will integrate with a new service on the Nintendo Switch Online app named Zelda Notes. This service offers voice guidance for locating Shrines and Koroks, and the ability to share creations in Tears of the Kingdom via QR codes with friends.
Kirby and the Forgotten Land will receive a new exclusive story, Star-Crossed World, alongside enhanced graphics and smoother framerates.
New titles like Metroid Prime 4: Beyond and Pokemon Legends: Z-A are also set for upgrades. Metroid Prime 4: Beyond will support mouse controls and offer gameplay at 4K resolution with 60fps and HDR. Meanwhile, Pokemon Legends: Z-A will feature improved resolution and framerates.
These upgraded editions will be available in both physical and digital formats. Owners of the original versions on the Nintendo Switch can purchase upgrade packs for Breath of the Wild, Tears of the Kingdom, Mario Party, and Kirby to enjoy these enhancements.

The Direct also highlighted third-party titles receiving Nintendo Switch 2 Editions, including Civilization 7 with mouse support and Street Fighter 6 with exclusive game modes.
The anticipation around "Nintendo Switch 2 Edition" games was sparked last week with a footnote on a webpage about the Virtual Game Card system, indicating that these editions cannot be transferred to the original Nintendo Switch via this method.
