The Nintendo Switch 2 is set to launch on June 5, 2025, and demand is expected to be high. To help ensure genuine players secure a console at launch, Nintendo has introduced a pre-order registration system on the My Nintendo Store.
Users with a Nintendo Account can register their interest in purchasing a Nintendo Switch 2 and select compatible accessories. Once registered, they’ll receive an invitation email—valid for 72 hours—when their place in line arrives. However, not everyone will be eligible.
To qualify, users must have an active Nintendo Switch Online membership with at least 12 months of paid service and a minimum of 50 total gameplay hours recorded by April 2, 2025. This requirement prioritizes long-time, engaged Switch owners.
Invitations are non-transferable and will be sent only to the email linked to the registered Nintendo Account. Additionally, there’s a strict one-per-account limit for both the console and each accessory during the invitation window.
Currently, registrants can express interest in either the base Nintendo Switch 2 model or the bundle that includes Mario Kart World. After placing an order, shipping will follow, with estimated delivery dates provided at checkout. Nintendo emphasizes that release-day delivery isn’t guaranteed due to processing and transit times.
These measures appear designed to deter scalpers and prioritize authentic players over resellers—a strategy reminiscent of Valve’s successful queue system for the Steam Deck, which used account history and purchase verification to limit abuse.
While other retailers will also offer the Switch 2 at launch, Nintendo’s approach gives loyal users a better chance to secure a console without competing in a chaotic, first-come-first-served rush.
