Summer Game Fest 2025 Partners Updates
Summer Game Fest (SGF) 2025 is just around the corner, with over 60 partners confirmed for this year’s event. In a recent X (formerly Twitter) post on May 28, SGF organizers announced that this would be the biggest lineup yet, featuring the long-awaited return of Nintendo.
The Japanese gaming giant had previously skipped the last two editions of SGF, opting instead to focus on its own digital presentations—Nintendo Directs. However, with the upcoming launch of its next-generation console, the Switch 2, Nintendo’s presence at SGF 2025 makes perfect sense.
While there's no confirmation of a full stage presentation from Nintendo, attendees can expect new updates regarding the Switch 2 and potentially more gameplay footage or trailers for titles launching alongside the system.
Xbox Games Showcase Could Feature Everwild and State of Decay 3
Xbox will also be part of this year’s festivities, continuing its tradition of hosting the annual Xbox Games Showcase during the multi-day celebration. While the presentation is expected to feature titles like the new Call of Duty, Gears of War: E-Day and Reloaded, and Outer Wilds 2 (which will have its own dedicated Direct), attention is also turning to two other highly anticipated projects.
One such title is State of Decay 3, which made its debut at the 2020 Xbox Games Showcase. After four years in development, the game returned in 2024 with a cinematic trailer showcasing in-game assets—an encouraging sign for eager fans. Xbox CEO Phil Spencer has also expressed personal enthusiasm for the franchise, stating in an interview with Xbox Era in February 2025, “Yeah, State of Decay is just one of the franchises I love back from the original one, so that one stays on the board. I do think the work that Double Fine’s doing and how Tim kind of solicits feedback from the team.”
In addition to State of Decay 3, another project generating buzz is Rare’s mysterious new IP, Everwild. First teased in 2019 as “A unique and unforgettable experience await in a natural and magical world,” the title has remained under wraps for several years. During the same interview, Spencer provided a brief update on its progress, noting, “And the other one, I’ll say because I was recently out at Rare. It’s nice to see the team with Everwild and the progress that they’re making.”
These recent comments, combined with growing anticipation, suggest both State of Decay 3 and Everwild could appear at this year’s Xbox Games Showcase. That said, nothing is official until Microsoft confirms it.
