If you're a devoted fan of *The Last of Us* and have been eagerly awaiting any sign that Naughty Dog is developing a third installment, it's time to brace yourself for some disappointing news. Neil Druckmann, the series' co-creator, recently delivered a strong message that dampens hopes for a *Last of Us Part 3*—not just for now, but possibly ever.
In a recent interview with *Variety*, much of the conversation revolved around the upcoming second season of *The Last of Us* TV series. However, when asked directly about the possibility of a *Part 3*, Druckmann was notably dismissive:
“I was waiting for this question,” he said with a sigh. “I guess the only thing I would say is don’t bet on there being more of ‘Last of Us.’ This could be it.”
Of course, whether or not fans take this statement at face value remains to be seen. Naughty Dog is currently deep into development on its next major project, *Intergalactic*, which was unveiled at The Game Awards last December. With no official release window yet in sight, it’s safe to assume the studio has its hands full navigating new creative territory far beyond the post-apocalyptic world of Joel and Ellie.
It's possible Druckmann is simply holding back information for now—or perhaps he genuinely feels the story has reached its natural conclusion. Either way, time will tell if this stance changes.
For those still longing for more *The Last of Us* content, hope isn't entirely lost. The television adaptation continues to expand the universe, with Season 2 set to debut on Max this April 13. While Druckmann himself admits he doesn't yet know how many seasons it might take to fully adapt the events of *Part 2*, an HBO executive previously suggested that four seasons in total may be the target number to bring the entire saga to a close.
