Marvel enthusiasts eagerly awaiting more of Oscar Isaac's Moon Knight in the MCU might need to temper their expectations about a second season of the Disney+ show. According to Brad Winderbaum, head of Marvel Television, while there are plans for Moon Knight's future within the MCU, a Season 2 of the show is not on the cards.
This decision stems from a strategic shift at Marvel Television since the release of Moon Knight in 2022. Initially, the studio's approach was to introduce characters via their own series, setting the stage for their integration into larger MCU projects. This was seen with characters like Kamala Khan in Ms. Marvel, who later appeared in The Marvels. However, Marvel Television is now moving towards a more conventional TV model, focusing on shows that can be released annually.
Winderbaum elaborated on this shift, stating, "So I think Marvel Television has happened in waves, and I think Moon Knight happened in a wave of shows that were going to establish characters that would tie-in to the future. And moving forward our priorities have shifted. We’re making shows as shows that can exist as annual releases, more like television. I would love to see a Moon Knight Season 2, but there are plans for Moon Knight down the road."
While fans have seen Isaac reprise his role as Moon Knight in the animated series Marvel’s What If…?, there's no confirmation yet on his return in a live-action format. Meanwhile, the MCU's upcoming TV slate is packed with exciting releases: Daredevil: Born Again in March, Ironheart in June, Eyes of Wakanda in August, Marvel Zombies in October, and Wonder Man in December.
Additionally, Marvel Television has reportedly hit pause on three other projects: Nova, Strange Academy, and Terror, Inc. However, Winderbaum hinted at exciting developments, noting the studio's interest in potentially reuniting the street-level heroes from the Netflix series, including Daredevil, Luke Cage, Jessica Jones, and Iron Fist, collectively known as The Defenders.
