Mortal Kombat co-founder Ed Boon recently shed light on how Mortal Kombat 1 will differentiate between Omni-Man and Homelander, ensuring that each character offers a unique gameplay experience. During an interview at Gamescom, Boon emphasized NetherRealm's commitment to creating distinct characters.
Ed Boon Confirms Homelander and Omni-Man Will Play Differently
In his conversation with IGN at Gamescom, Ed Boon addressed the community's concerns about the potential overlap in combat styles between Homelander and Omni-Man. He reassured fans that the development team at MK1 is taking a unique approach to differentiate these characters. Boon explained that they have been given the creative freedom to explore various ideas, but they are careful to avoid duplicating abilities, especially those reminiscent of Superman. "Obviously, we could do anything with the characters, but I don’t think we’re going to have both Homelander and Omni-Man have heat vision or something like that," Boon stated.
Boon also highlighted how the team drew inspiration from the characters' actions in their respective shows to craft their Fatalities. He emphasized that the main attacks of Homelander and Omni-Man will significantly differentiate them, countering any assumptions that they might be similar characters. "They’re definitely going to play differently. The main attacks are going to really differentiate them, but we’re definitely aware of the assumption that some people were making on, ‘Oh, they’re just going to be the same characters,'" Boon concluded.
