Universal Pictures has unveiled the first image of Christopher Nolan's upcoming film, The Odyssey, featuring Hollywood star Matt Damon as the legendary hero Odysseus. Following the blockbuster success of his 2023 biopic Oppenheimer, Nolan's latest project is a modern retelling of the ancient Greek epic poem, originally penned in the 8th or 7th century BC. The Odyssey is set to hit theaters on July 17, 2026.

Here is the official description of the film:
Christopher Nolan’s next film ‘The Odyssey’ is a mythic action epic shot across the world using brand new IMAX film technology. The film brings Homer’s foundational saga to IMAX film screens for the first time and opens in theaters everywhere on July 17, 2026.
The Odyssey narrates the epic journey of Odysseus, the king of Ithaca, who embarks on a decade-long odyssey to return home following the Trojan War. While Universal has kept further details under wraps, early reports suggest an impressive ensemble cast.
Matt Damon, the first actor rumored to be in talks for Nolan's next venture, returns to Universal after his role in Oppenheimer, which clinched seven Academy Awards, including Best Picture and Best Director. Joining Damon, the film is expected to feature a stellar lineup including Charlize Theron, Tom Holland, Zendaya, Anne Hathaway, Lupita Nyong'o, and Robert Pattinson.
