Marvel Rivals developers have unveiled their strategy to enhance the gaming experience by introducing new heroes monthly and shortening the length of upcoming seasons. Dive into the details of their post-Season 2 plans, along with information on new characters and skins.
Marvel Rivals Upcoming Changes
New Heroes Every Month
In an effort to keep the game as vibrant as its launch, NetEase has announced a shift in their content release schedule. Instead of adding two heroes per season, they will now introduce a new hero every month starting from Season 3. This exciting update was shared by Marvel Rivals' Creative Director Guangguang and Lead Combat Designer Zhiyong during the Marvel Rivals’ Dev Vision Vol. 05 on April 4, along with plans to adjust the duration of each season.
The developers have decided to reduce each season's length from three months to two. This change will allow for the monthly release of new heroes. Guangguang stated, "After extensive internal discussions and thorough evaluation, we’ve decided that starting from Season 3, the seasons will shift to a two-month format, with a new hero debuting each month."
Guangguang also acknowledged the pressure from social media to maintain the game's excitement, saying, "During this time, several discussions on social media have certainly added some pressure on us to keep the game as exciting as it has been since December." The team is also exploring the addition of new game modes to further enhance the player experience, potentially leading to the introduction of up to 12 new heroes annually.
Balancing these new additions presents a significant challenge, but Guangguang emphasized the team's commitment to using key metric data, including pick rates, win rates, and ability stats, to ensure fair gameplay. In an interview with PC Gamer on March 14, he noted, "This data serves as the foundation for our balancing efforts."
Season 2 Details and Future Plans
The Dev Vision also provided insights into Season 2, dubbed Hellfire Gala, where players will join Marvel Heroes invited by the new hero, Emma Frost, to explore the Mutant haven, the Living Island Krakoa. Emma Frost, an X-Men villain with telepathic powers and the ability to transform objects into diamonds, will serve as a Vanguard in the game.
The Hellfire Gala introduces new skins for characters such as Luna Snow, Magneto, Cloak and Dagger, and Black Panther, showcasing them in elegant formal wear. This season draws inspiration from Marvel’s Hellfire Club, a prestigious social club known for its influence over global events.
Season 2.5 will introduce Ultron, a well-known Marvel villain. The Hellfire Gala trailer hints at a dramatic interruption by Ultron robots intent on initiating the Age of Ultron, though further details about Ultron's role remain undisclosed.
