Keanu Reeves has shared an exciting update about the long-awaited sequel to the 2005 cult classic, Constantine. Reeves, who played the occult detective John Constantine in the original film, revealed that a pitch for Constantine 2 was recently presented to DC Studios and received a positive response. "We've been trying to make this film for over a decade, and we just recently put a story together and pitched it to DC Studios and they said, 'Okay,'" Reeves told Inverse. "So, we're going to try and write a script." This news has sparked hope among fans who have been eager for a sequel since the original film's release.
However, it's important to temper expectations as there's no guarantee that DC Studios co-chiefs James Gunn and Peter Safran will greenlight the project. Constantine 2 is not yet a confirmed part of the rebooted DCU, and neither Gunn nor Safran have mentioned it as a potential project. Despite this uncertainty, Reeves remains optimistic, teasing that if the sequel does get made, it will be set in "the same world" as the original film. He humorously added, "John Constantine's going to be tortured even more."
Adding to the excitement, producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura shared his own update on the sequel's progress. Speaking to ComicBook, he revealed that a script for Constantine 2 is already in his inbox, although he admitted to being hesitant to read it out of fear that it might not meet his high hopes. "You know it's in my inbox right now, funny enough," he said. "I'm too scared to read it, though, I want it to be good so bad. I’ll probably read it in the next few days, when I get on an airplane."
