While you can befriend nearly everyone in *Fields of Mistria*, romance is reserved for a select group of NPCs. With the v0.13.0 update, you have the option to pursue romance with 11 different characters, including the enigmatic Caldarus himself.
Each romanceable NPC has a heart meter that fills based on your interactions with them. To deepen your bond with a particular character, engage with them regularly and pay close attention to their preferences. Start by **talking to them daily**—a simple chat can significantly enhance your relationship. Don't forget to complete any requests they post on the town board, as this will provide more chances to boost their heart gauge.
Additionally, you can **give them a gift once per day**. Choose items that they particularly like or love, as these preferences vary from one character to another. You can gather or craft these items. On their birthday, make sure to give them a gift they love for an extra boost to their heart meter. Consistent effort in these areas will quickly increase their affection towards you.
Keep in mind that currently, NPC heart gauges can only reach **six hearts**. After achieving six hearts, a cutscene will play, hinting at a budding romance but not a fully developed one yet. According to the game's roadmap, future updates will introduce 8 and 10-heart events, and eventually, options for marriage and children, ensuring your romantic journey continues to flourish.
