Legendary composer John Williams is collaborating with Steven Spielberg for the acclaimed director’s currently untitled 2026 UFO film. The news came from Damian Woetzel, president of the prestigious Juilliard School, during an event examining Williams’ influential work.
As reported by music journalist Doug Adams, Woetzel shared with the audience that Williams is currently in Los Angeles “doing what he does best: working with Steven Spielberg on the upcoming film.”
Details surrounding Spielberg’s mysterious UFO project, initially revealed in mid-2024, remain limited. However, we do know that the script is being written by longtime Spielberg partner David Koepp, known for Jurassic Park, The Lost World, War of the Worlds, and Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, and the film is being produced by Universal Pictures.
This 2026 release will mark the 30th Spielberg film scored by Williams—a figure that doesn’t include his advisory role on 2021’s West Side Story or his work on 2023’s Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, which was directed by James Mangold.
Williams had previously suggested in 2022 that Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny might be his final film, though the composer softened that statement in 2024, saying, “If a film came along that truly sparked my interest, with a schedule I could manage, I’d be open to it. Nothing is off the table.”
John Williams is among the most acclaimed composers in Hollywood history. With 54 Academy Award nominations and five wins, the 93-year-old film music legend has created iconic scores for Jaws, Jurassic Park, Home Alone, Saving Private Ryan, Superman, E.T., Indiana Jones, Schindler’s List, Harry Potter, Star Wars, and countless other classics.
