Helldivers 2 now features Super Earth maps for intense battles as part of its major Heart of Democracy update.
Following last week’s leaks, the Heart of Democracy update—available now on PC and PlayStation 5—reveals that the Illuminate invasion has reached Super Earth. Players can now choose missions on their home planet, fighting alongside SEAF soldiers in sprawling Mega Cities.
These urban biomes include operations aimed at liberating the cities, which developer Arrowhead notes “have a considerable influence on planetary campaigns.” This update connects to the ongoing Galactic War in Helldivers 2, a community-driven narrative shaped by Arrowhead behind the scenes.

According to the PlayStation Blog, here’s a summary of the new objective:
Helldivers face a new challenge: repel the Illuminate invasion by securing areas where the fleet lands. This won’t be easy, soldiers. Like a galactic tug-of-war, you'll experience fierce back-and-forth combat, rapidly gaining and losing control over contested zones.
Players can activate Planetary Defense Cannons to take down the Illuminate fleet, as seen in the trailer. Additionally, SEAF troops are deployed to help defend the cities. These squads can fight autonomously or be ordered to follow Helldivers, offering temporary backup during missions. However, caution is crucial—civilians still roam the streets, making friendly fire management an essential part of the fight alongside taking out alien threats.
The Heart of Democracy update underscores Arrowhead's commitment to supporting Helldivers 2 for years, following its record-breaking release last year.
Last week, Arrowhead CEO Shams Jorjani addressed players' concerns that the studio might shift focus to its next project, nicknamed "Game 6."
"Not a chance. Right now, everything is about Helldivers 2," Jorjani stated. "A very small team will begin preliminary work on something else later this year, moving at a slow pace. Helldivers remains our primary focus, and that won’t change anytime soon."
So how long does Jorjani expect content updates for Helldivers 2 to continue?
"As long as players keep engaging and buying Super Credits, we can sustain our support," Jorjani explained, referring to the in-game currency used for Premium Warbonds. "Last summer, we faced challenges that made long-term support uncertain—but we corrected our course, and thanks to strong community backing, the future looks promising."
