Since Fields of Mistria entered Early Access on Steam, the Deep Woods area has been marked on the town map. However, the location remained inaccessible until the game’s March 2025 update. Here’s a detailed guide on how to access the Deep Woods and locate Caldarus in Fields of Mistria.
How To Unlock the Deep Woods in Fields of Mistria
To unlock the Deep Woods, you must break the Fire Seal and use the newly acquired Dragon’s Breath spell to burn away the vines blocking the entrance. Start by assembling four items for the Priestess’ Fire Seal altar located on Floor 60 of the mines: a Faceted Rock Gem, a Rockroot, an Emerald, and a Sealing Scroll. You can find the first three items between floors 50 and 59, but acquiring the Sealing Scroll requires teamwork with Juniper and Balor.
To assist Balor in obtaining the Sealing Scroll, place the following items in the bin by his wagon:
- x10 Silver Ingots
- x10 Rubies
- x10 Sapphires
- x10 Emeralds
After fulfilling these requirements, speak with Balor again. He'll inform you that the scroll will be ready the following day, allowing you to complete the offering at the altar.
Breaking the seal typically results in a message from the mysterious mines Priestess, but this time, things take an unexpected turn. As you attempt to leave, the Priestess warns you about the Sealing Scroll's potential to trap you inside. With your health low, Caldarus appears in his human form, rescuing you and retreating to his temple in the Deep Woods to regain his strength.
Caldarus then requests that you find him in the Deep Woods, granting you the Dragon’s Breath spell. This spell is crucial for burning away the obstructing vines at the Deep Woods' entrance. To use it, equip Dragon’s Breath from the pause menu and activate it while standing in front of the entrance, permanently unlocking the Deep Woods and other hidden areas.

How To Find Caldarus
After breaking the Fire Seal, head to Caldarus' temple within the Deep Woods. This temple is located north of the Eastern Road on your map, accessible by using the Dragon’s Breath spell. Caldarus' precise location will be marked on your map, similar to other NPCs. You'll find him in the northeast corner of the area.
To reach him, enter the Deep Woods, turn right, and use your axe to remove the stump blocking your path. Proceed north until you reach the temple where Caldarus awaits inside.
Once the Deep Woods is unlocked, you can use the Dragon Statue on your farm to fast travel to the area and visit Caldarus for just 10 Essence, saving you time compared to traveling on foot or horseback.
You can also interact with Caldarus through his statue, albeit in spirit.
