The highly anticipated GTA 6 mapping project has kicked into high gear following the release of Trailer 2, which has provided a wealth of new information for the community. Garza, a key figure overseeing the GTA 6 Mapping Discord, which boasts nearly 400 members, expressed excitement about the project's future. "It really changes everything for us for the rest of the year," he told IGN. "We have so much new content to work on and we’re really just getting started."
The project, which originated after significant leaks in September 2022, aims to create the most accurate map of GTA 6 possible. Prior to Trailer 2, the mapping efforts were based on those leaks and the initial trailer released in December 2023. However, the latest map version, v0.049, released by project lead DuPz0r at the end of March, is now outdated. The new trailer has introduced a flood of details that will help refine and expand the map significantly.

Trailer 2 not only confirmed plot details and introduced new characters but also released 70 new screenshots and revealed various explorable locations within the state of Leonida, GTA 6's version of Florida. Confirmed locations include Vice City (akin to Miami), the tropical Leonida Keys, Grassrivers, Port Gellhorn, Ambrosia, and the national landmark Mount Kalaga near the state's northern border.
The dedicated volunteers are meticulously analyzing the trailer to pinpoint the exact locations of every element shown, striving to align the fictional spaces with their real-world counterparts. This meticulous work will culminate in an updated map, expected to offer fans the most detailed preview of GTA 6's world before its release in May 2026. Should Rockstar release additional assets or gameplay footage, the team is prepared to refine their work further. Only upon the game's release will they be able to assess the accuracy of their efforts.

However, the project faces potential legal challenges from Take-Two, Rockstar's parent company. A modder who created a playable version of the GTA 6 map within GTA 5 was forced to halt their project after receiving a takedown notice from Take-Two in March. When asked about his concerns regarding similar action, Garza admitted to "some mild concern" but noted that the project does not directly showcase leaked material. He believes that the project's popularity and its role in generating interest in the game might be reasons why Take-Two has not intervened yet. Nonetheless, Garza stated he would comply with any cease and desist order if issued.
As the community eagerly awaits further developments, you can explore all the details we’ve discovered so far and delve into all the GTA 6 fan theories emerging from Trailer 2 itself.
