Recently unearthed concept art from the now-canceled *Batman: Arkham Knight* follow-up, once known as **Project Sabbath**, offers a compelling glimpse into what could have been. Developed by *Batman Arkham Origins* studio Warner Bros. Games Montreal following the 2015 release of *Arkham Knight*, this ambitious project aimed to introduce a dual-Batman narrative featuring both Bruce Wayne and his son, Damian Wayne.
The leaked artwork showcases a more mature and grizzled version of Bruce Wayne, complete with a beard—hinting at a possible retirement arc or transition of power. Meanwhile, Damian is depicted as a youthful but capable Dark Knight in his own right, stepping into the role with characteristic confidence and intensity. Additional designs include reimagined versions of classic characters such as Killer Croc and Huntress, offering a fresh visual direction that suggests a bold new take on the Batman mythos.
Despite its promising premise, Project Sabbath never made it past the concept stage. Warner Bros. ultimately canceled the project, shifting WB Games Montreal’s focus toward *Gotham Knights*, a multiplayer title that notably excluded Batman altogether. Released in 2022, *Gotham Knights* was met with widespread criticism and failed to resonate with fans or critics alike.
Interestingly, some of the design choices seen in *Project Sabbath*, particularly the updated look for Killer Croc, bear resemblance to the aesthetic later used in *Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League*. That game, while also developed under the WB umbrella, took a different approach by featuring a stylized version of the Arkham universe.

This isn’t the first time visuals from *Project Sabbath* have appeared online. In 2021, another batch of concept art emerged showing Damian Wayne in a sleek Batsuit adorned with a red Bat-signal emblem across the chest. The same aged version of Bruce Wayne was present, though only visible within the confines of his suit—his facial features remained hidden until now.

Following the cancellation of *Project Sabbath*, WB Games Montreal went on to assist Rocksteady Studios with *Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League*, before launching their own ill-fated *Gotham Knights*. Unfortunately, the studio faced significant downsizing in late 2024, with nearly 100 employees losing their jobs.
As Rocksteady now reportedly shifts gears toward a new single-player Batman title, fans are left wondering if this upcoming project might finally realize the vision of a Bruce and Damian Wayne-led story that *Project Sabbath* once promised.
