At Droid Gamers, we often receive various pieces of tech to review, but a projector was a new addition to our lineup. Given its ability to enhance mobile gaming by projecting onto a larger screen, the Formovie Episode One seemed like an exciting piece of technology to explore.
Designed to cater to those on a budget, the Episode One projector manages to fulfill this promise admirably, though not without a few hiccups. The package includes the projector itself, a remote (batteries not included), a power cable, and a manual. While it may not have the robust feel of more expensive models, its lighter weight of three pounds makes it highly portable, perfect for taking on the go.
However, the connectivity options are somewhat limited, featuring only one USB-A port, one HDMI port, and a single audio jack. This setup, while modest, should suffice for most users' needs and is understandable given the price point.
Performance-wise, the Episode One holds its own for its cost. With 150 ISO lumens, it's not the brightest projector on the market, and it struggled under direct sunlight during our tests. Yet, it performed admirably in darker settings, which is to be expected. All the movies, TV shows, and streamed games we tested were displayed with clarity.
For optimal image quality, we found it necessary to position the projector at least 10 feet away from the screen. The built-in speaker, while functional, produces a somewhat tinny sound, suggesting that pairing the Episode One with an external speaker could significantly enhance the audio experience.
The user interface is one of the projector's strengths. Its straightforward design and ease of setup make it more user-friendly than many pricier alternatives, reflecting a smart, budget-conscious approach.
In conclusion, the Formovie Episode One is an excellent entry-level projector. It may not excel in any single area, but it offers a well-rounded performance that should satisfy most casual users. It's a great first step into the world of projectors.
