Final Fantasy 9 25th Anniversary Website Updates
New Character Profiles
Speculation about a Final Fantasy 9 remake has been reignited by Square Enix's updates to the game's 25th anniversary website. New profiles for beloved characters like Zidane, Vivi, Garnet, and Steiner have been added, fueling hopes among fans for an upcoming FF9 remake.
The launch of the 25th anniversary website earlier this year initially sparked rumors about a potential remake. These speculations intensified when Square Enix shared a quote from Vivi, the iconic black mage, on Twitter.
The latest updates feature small icons of four of the eight main characters on the website. Clicking these icons reveals short descriptions accompanied by new artwork from FF9’s character designer, Toshiyuki Itahana, known for his work on the Crystal Chronicles and Chocobo series. These descriptions encapsulate the character's essence and their narrative goals.
While no official confirmation of a remake has been made, the meticulous attention Square Enix has given to this anniversary celebration suggests that a significant announcement may be on the horizon. FF9 fans eagerly await further updates.
New Merch Available
In addition to the website updates, Square Enix has expanded its 25th anniversary merchandise collection. New items include Garnet’s necklace, a wearable replica of Vivi’s hat, and a set of acrylic standees.
Garnet’s Silver Necklace is now open for reservations, with an anticipated release date of November 15. Priced at around 38,500 yen, or approximately $260, this necklace is a must-have for collectors. Vivi’s hat, which can be worn, is also available for pre-order, with a planned release on September 6, costing about 17,600 yen, or roughly $120.
The FF9 Acrylic Stand Collection, featuring eight different designs, is another exciting addition. These come in blind boxes, adding an element of surprise to the collecting experience.
With all the new preparations and merchandise, the anticipation for an FF9 remake feels more palpable than ever. Although Square Enix remains silent on official news, fans continue to hold onto the hope that their cherished journey through Gaia will be remade.
