ROME: Total War enthusiasts, rejoice! Feral Interactive has just rolled out the massive Imperium Update for the Android version of this beloved strategy game, which hit the mobile platform back in 2018. This update brings a host of gameplay tweaks, enhanced controls, and quality-of-life improvements that elevate your gaming experience to new heights. Excitingly, fans of the standalone expansions Barbarian Invasion and Alexander can look forward to these updates next week as well.
What Does the Imperium Update Bring to ROME: Total War?
The Imperium Update integrates some of the finest features from Feral’s more recent mobile titles, such as Total War: MEDIEVAL II and EMPIRE, into ROME: Total War. A key highlight is the introduction of three new control options: Positioning Mode, Melee Mode, and Automatic Deselection. These modes enhance your control over units, making battles more strategic and precise. Now, you can effortlessly move your armies, agents, or fleets by simply tapping and holding, eliminating the need for manual path dragging.
With the new Positioning Mode, you can meticulously adjust unit placements by tapping and holding. The Group Grid feature simplifies managing unit groups with its intuitive, collapsible selection menu. Meanwhile, Melee Mode allows ranged units to switch to close combat when the situation demands it.
One of the most significant enhancements is the Command Slowdown feature, which automatically slows down the game when you're issuing complex orders, making it easier to manage intricate battle strategies. Additionally, for the first time, keyboard and mouse support has been added for Android (and iPad) users, offering a more familiar and precise control method.
The minimap in ROME: Total War has been revamped to mimic the user-friendly design seen in MEDIEVAL II, complete with smoother zooming and navigation capabilities. A new reset button allows you to quickly return to the default view, enhancing your overall gameplay experience.
The Imperium Update is now live and available for download via the Google Play Store for all ROME: Total War Android owners. Keep an eye out for the updates coming to Barbarian Invasion and Alexander next week, and don't miss the chance to experience these improvements firsthand.
