The acclaimed series Shōgun, celebrated for its 18 Emmy Awards and 4 Golden Globe wins, is set to captivate audiences once again with the announcement of its second season. According to an official press release from FX, Cosmo Jarvis will reprise his role as pilot John Blackthorn and step into the role of co-executive producer for Season 2.
Hiroyuki Sanada, who portrays Lord Yoshii Toranaga and signed on for the new season last May, has been elevated to executive producer following his contributions to the initial run. Production for Season 2 is scheduled to commence in January 2026 in Vancouver, the same location where the first season was filmed.
FX has teased that the upcoming season will be "a wholly original new chapter to the first season," which was based on James Clavell's novel. The network elaborated on the storyline connecting the two seasons:
"In the first season, Lord Yoshii Toranaga (Sanada) fought for his survival as his enemies in the Council of Regents united against him. When a mysterious European ship was found marooned in a nearby village, its English pilot John Blackthorne (Jarvis) shared vital strategic secrets with Toranaga that tipped the scales of power in his favor to win a century-defining civil war.
"Part two of Shōgun is set 10 years after the events of the first season and continues the historically-inspired saga of these two men from different worlds whose fates are inextricably entwined.”
Fans are eagerly anticipating the release of new episodes, which, if all goes well, could be available by the end of 2026. Until then, the excitement builds as we await further developments.
